ANNUAL
BLESSING OF CHILDREN
The annual Blessing of children will take place on Sunday
14 January at 3.00 pm. All children are invited. Saint
Anne's Guild has been kind enough to provide tea in the Parish Centre afterwards.
SAINT PETER'S
PRIMARY SCHOOL REGISTRATION
Children who reach the age of five between 1 March
2001 and 28 February 2002 should be registered in the school between Tuesday 16
and Friday 19 January from 9.30 to 10.30, 11.00 to 12 noon and 2.00 to 3.00 pm.
It is very important that you hve their birth and Baptismal certificates. If any
family is unable to register their child, please telephone the school prior to
15 January.
SAINT
VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
The clearly marked collection box for the Saint
Vincent de Paul Society at the rear of the church is a constant remineder
of its good work and an opportunity to help at any time. The Society has elected
Jim Delahunt as its new President. Saint Peter's Parish would like to thank Paul
McNamara who retires a President after many years.
500 CLUB
The winner
for week ending 17 December should have been 27 Celia Andrew and not Celia Ralston.
Annual payments of £13 will be gratefully accepted at the beginning of this
new session. New collectors and members are urgently required..
SCOTTISH
CATHOLIC INTERNATIONAL AID FUND
The total collected for the Scottish Catholic
International Aid Fund in 2000 was £893 which I have sent on your behalf.
SAINT ANNE'S GUILD
The bus for the Saint Anne's
Guild trip to the Gaiety Theatre, Ayr will leave Chapelhill Mount on Tuesday
9 January at 4.00 pm via the usual route.

McCulloch would like to thank all family, friends and neighbours who attended
her eightieth birthday celebration in the Parish Centre on 16 December. A great
night was had by all. Special thanks to bar staff and helpers. Donations totalling
£200 have been sent to the Children's Hospice in Glasgow.

OF THE CHURCH
A Minister was getting a haircut at a parishioner's shop. He
expressed the hope that the barber would start giving more liberally to the local
congregation's missionary budget. "The church is always asking me for help."
the barber retorted. "All I hear is money, money, money! I think people should
give what they please. I'm sick of hearing about systematic and proportionate
giving." . After the haircut, the minister forked out 50 pence. "I think
I should give as I feel inclined." he said. The barber exploded. "But
I can't pay the rent or take care of my other expenses if people just give me
any amount they happen to have in their pockets." The minister agreed, then
went on "Nor can the Lord's work be carried on if we don't appreciate his
blessing and give back to him what is rightly his." The barber got the point
- and the balance due to him.

JOURNEY TO JESUS
Each person has to find Jesus in his or her own way.
As
an old man was walking down the beach, he noticed a young girl ahead of him picking
up starfish and flinging them into the sea. He asked her why she was doing this.
The little girl explained that a starfish stranded on the beach when the tide
went out would die if left in the morning sun. "But the beach goes on for
miles and there are millions of starfish." said the old man. "How can
your efforts make any difference?" The little girl looked down the stretch
of beach at all of the stranded starfish and then stared at the one in her hand.
As she pitched it back into the salt water waves, she answered "It makes
a difference to this one."
Jesus values each person infinitely and
each person can make a difference. Do we value the uniqueness of others?
RESULTS
A
minister dies and is waiting in line at the Pearly Gales. Ahead of him is a guy
who's dressed in sunglasses, a loud shirt, leather jacket and jeans. Saint Peter
addresses this guy "Who are you, so that I may know whether or not to admit
you to the Kingdom of Heaven?" The guy replies. "I'm Joe Cohen, taxi
driver." Saint Peter consults his list. He smiles and says to the taxi driver,
"Take this silken robe and golden staff and enter the Kingdom of Heaven."
The taxi driver goes into heaven with his robe and staff and it's the minister's
turn. He stands erect and booms out "I am Joseph Snow, pastor of Saint Mary's
for the last forty-three years" Saint Peter consults his list. He says to
the minister "Take this cotton robe and wooden staff and enter the Kingdom
of Heaven." "Just a minute," says the minister. "That man
was a taxi driver and he gets a silken robe and golden staff. How can this be?"
"Up here, we work by results." says Saint Peter. "While you preached,
people slept; while he drove, people prayed."

Reading from the prophet Isaiah
Arise, shine out, Jerusalem, for your light
has come, the glory of the Lord is rising on you, though night still covers the
earth and darkness their peoples. Above you the Lord now rises and above you his
glory appears. The nations come to your light and kings to your dawning brightness.
Lift up your eyes and look round: all arc assembling and coming towards you, your
sons from far away and your daughters being tenderly carried. At this sight you
will grow radiant, your heart throbbing and full; camels in throngs will cover
you, and dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; everyone in Sheba will come, bringing
gold and incense and singing the praise of the Lord.

Reading from Saint Paul's Letter to the Ephesians
You have probably heard how
I have been entrusted by God with the grace he meant for you, and that it was
a revelation that I was given the knowledge of the mystery. This mystery that
has now been revealed through the Spirit to his holy apostles and prophets was
unknown to any men in past generations; it means that pagans now share the same
inheritance, that they are parts of the same body, and that the same promise has
been made to them, in Christ Jesus, through the gospel.

Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
After
Jesus had been born at Bethlehem in Judaea during the reign of King Herod, some
wise men came to Jerusalem from the east. "Where is the infant king of the
Jews?" they asked. "We saw his star as it rose and have come to do him
homage." When King Herod heard this he was perturbed, and so was the whole
of Jerusalem. He called together all the chief priests and the scribes of the
people, and enquired of them when the Christ was to be born. "At Bethlehem
in Judaea," they told him "for this is what the prophet wrote: And you.
Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, you are by no means least among the leaders of
Judah, for out of you will come a leader who will shepherd my people Israel."
Then Herod summoned the wise men to see him privately. He asked them the exact
date on which the star had appeared, and sent them on to Bethlehem. "Go and
find out all about the child," he said "and when you have found him,
let me know, so that I too may go and do him homage." Having listened to
what the king had to say, they set out. And there in front of them was the star
they had seen rising; it went forward and halted over the place where the child
was. The sign of the star filled them with delight, and going into the house they
saw the child with his mother Mary, and felling to their knees they did him homage.
Then, opening their treasure, they offered him gifts of gold and frankincense
and myrrh. But they were warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, and returned
to their own country by a different way.
