PARISH
CENTRE COLLECTION

- many thanks.
BANKER'S

Paying your collection by monthly or quarterly banker's order makes
money handling much safer. Banker's Order forms are available in the porch.
SAINT
PETER'S CHILDREN'S CENTRE
A few places are available for the afternoon session
of the Nursery Class from 12.30 to 3.00pm for three to five year olds. For more
information contact Anne Hunter of Saint Peter's Children's Centre on 473030.
BLESSED
SACRAMENT CHAPEL
The Lighthouse Glass Company who created the Stained
Glass window for the Presbytery is looking at a way to portray the Last Supper
on to glass for the Blessed
Sacrament Chapel.
FUNDRAISERS
There is a suggestion for Fundraising
Suppers for the Blessed
Sacrament Chapel in the Presbytery. Numbers will be limited to twenty or so
at a time, food will be themed and the tickets will be all inclusive. Are there
any comments? A series of fundraising evenings in the Parish Centre will also
be required, for example, bingo, race night, quiz night and so on, if we are to
do justice to the project. Other ideas are welcome.
SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION
A meeting will take place in the Parish Centre on Wednesday 30 August at 7.00
pm for the parents and guardians of the Primary 4 children who will be receiving
the Sacraments next year.
SCOTTISH
INTERNATIONAL RELIEF
Katrina (Brown) Pollock and Averill Cunningham will
be running the Glasgow 10K on Sunday 3 September for Scottish
International Relief. Sponsor Forms are available at the stall for those wishing
to sponsor them.
WHITHORN
PILGRIMAGE
The Annual Pilgrimage to Saint Ninian's Cave on Whithorn shore
takes place on Sunday 27 August. Mass is celebrated at 4.00pm. There is also Mass
in the Church for those who cannot make the walk to the cave. This year, the liturgy
is organised by our deanery and the sermon
will be preached by Father
Matt.
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA)
A group for
those who are interested in knowing more about the Church and perhaps becoming
Catholic at Easter will begin in the Presbytery at the beginning of September.
CHILDREN'S
LITURGY TRAINING
All involved in taking Children's Liturgy are invited to
a Training Day in Smithstone House, Kilwinning on Saturday 16 September from 10.30
am to 3.30 pm. Further details and a list for names is available in the porch.
NORTH
AYRSHIRE CARE AND REPAIR SERVICE
A wide range of services is available to
elderly home owners from the North Ayrshire Care and Repair Service. Details are
on the notice board in the porch.
SUGGESTION
I am beginning to realise
that when you've got to go, you've got to go especially if you are quite young.
My suggestion to parents is what about going the long way round - out the front
door and round to the Parish Centre toilets that way? It would help us to have
a few less distractions during the sacred parts of the Mass.
DISCLOSURE
SCOTLAND
Almost all who volunteered to help out with Children's Liturgy and
other events are now cleared through Disclosure Scotland.
ITALIAN
CLASSES
Italian classes are open to all in the Parish Centre. If you are interested,
phone Clare McIlhatton at around 5.00 pm.
AYRSHIRE
BUILDINGS OPEN DOORS
Saint Peter's is again taking part in this Ayrshire Building
Open Doors event on Sunday 3 September from 1.00 to 4.00 pm. The Church and the
downstairs part of the presbytery will be open to visitors with a short guided
tour if required. Everyone is welcome. It might be possible to have a cup of tea!
PIZZA
NIGHT
There will be a Pizza Night for the Youth of the Diocese on Sunday 3rd
September after 6.30 pm Mass in Saint
Mary's Church, Saltcoats. It will be an evening to pray and enjoy free pizza
and games in the good company of other young folk.
Very
often a change of self is needed more than a change of scene. |
READINGS
The readings for this weekend's Masses are shown below in English. They are available
in eleven other languages
including French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish by clicking on this
link.
First
Reading
Joshua
24:1-2.15-18
Joshua
gathered all the tribes of Israel together at Shechem; then he called the elders,
leaders, judges and scribes of Israel, and they presented themselves before God.
Then Joshua said to all the people: If you will not serve the Lord, choose today
whom you wish to serve, whether the gods that your ancestors served beyond the
River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are now living. As for me
and my House, we will serve the Lord. The people answered, We have no intention
of deserting the Lord and serving other gods! Was it not the Lord our God who
brought us and our ancestors out of the land of Egypt, the house of slavery, who
worked those great wonders before our eyes and preserved us all along the way
we travelled and among all the peoples through whom we journeyed? We too will
serve the Lord, for he is our God.
Second
Reading
Ephesians
5:21-32
Give
way to one another in obedience to Christ. Wives should regard their husbands
as they regard the Lord, since as Christ is head of the Church and saves the whole
body, so is a husband the head of his wife; and as the Church submits to Christ,
so should wives to their husbands, in everything. Husbands should love their wives
just as Christ loved the Church and sacrificed himself for her to make her holy.
He made her clean by washing her in water with a form of words, so that when he
took her to himself she would be glorious, with no speck or wrinkle or anything
like that, but holy and faultless. In the same way, husbands must love their wives
as they love their own bodies; for a man to love his wife is for him to love himself.
A man never hates his own body, but he feeds it and looks after it; and that is
the way Christ treats the Church, because it is his body - and we are its living
parts. For this reason, a man must leave his father and mother and be joined to
his wife, and the two will become one body. This mystery has many implications;
but I am saying it applies to Christ and the Church.
Gospel
John
6:60-69
After hearing his doctrine many of the followers of Jesus said, "This
is intolerable language. How could anyone accept it?" Jesus was aware that
his followers were complaining about it and said, "Does this upset you? What
if you should see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before? It is the spirit
that gives life, the flesh has nothing to offer. The words I have spoken to you
are spirit and they are life. But there are some of you who do not believe."
For Jesus knew from the outset those who did not believe, and who it was that
would betray him. He went on, "This is why I told you that no one could come
to me unless the Father allows him." After this, many of his disciples left
him and stopped going with him. Then Jesus said to the Twelve, "What about
you, do you want to go away too?" Simon Peter answered, "Lord, who shall
we go to? You have the message of eternal life, and we believe; we know that you
are the Holy One of God.".
