Jesus and Satan have an argument
as to who is the better programmer. This goes on for a few hours until they come
to an agreement to hold a contest with God the Father as the judge. They set themselves
before their computers and begin. They are given the task and began to type furiously,
lines of code streaming up the screen for several hours straight. Seconds before
the end of the competition, a bolt of lightning strikes, taking out the electricity.
Moments later, the power is restored, and God announces that the contest is over.
He asks Satan to show what he has come up with. Satan indignantly protests, "I
have nothing! I lost it all when the power went out." "Very well, then,"
says God "let us see if Jesus fared any better. " Jesus enters a command
and the screen comes to life with a vivid display and the voices of an angelic
choir pour forth from the speakers. Satan is astonished. He stutters, "B-b-but
how? I lost everything yet Jesus' program is intact! How did he do it?" God
chuckles, "Satan, when are you going to learn ...Jesus saves!".
Never neglect the little things. Never skimp on that extra effort, that additional few minutes, that soft word of praise or thanks, that delivery of the very best that you can do. It does not matter what others think, it is of prime importance, however, what you think about you. You can never do your best, which should always be your trademark, if you are cutting corners and shirking responsibilities. You are special. Act it. Never neglect the little things. |
Love is an act of endless forgiveness, a tender look which becomes a habit. |
READINGS
The readings for this weekend's Masses are shown below in English. They are available
in eleven other languages
including French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish by clicking on this
link.
First
Reading Genesis 14:18-20
Melchizedek
king of Salem brought bread and wine; he was a priest of God Most High. He pronounced
this blessing: Blessed be Abraham by God Most High, creator of heaven and earth,
and blessed be God Most High for handing over your enemies to you. And Abraham
gave him a tithe of everything.
Second
Reading 1 Corinthians
11:23-26
This
is what I received from the Lord, and in turn passed on to you: that on the same
night that he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread, and thanked God for
it and broke it, and he said, 'This is my body, which is for you; do this as a
memorial of me.' In the same way he took the cup after supper, and said, 'This
cup is the new covenant in my blood. Whenever you drink it, do this as a memorial
of me.' Until the Lord comes, therefore, every time you eat this bread and drink
this cup, you are proclaiming his death.
Gospel
Luke 9:11-17
Jesus
made the crowds welcome and talked to them about the kingdom of God; and he cured
those who were in need of healing. It was late afternoon when the Twelve came
to him and said, 'Send the people away, and they can go to the villages and farms
round about to find lodging and food; for we are in a lonely place here.' He replied,
'Give them something to eat yourselves.' But they said, 'We have no more than
five loaves and two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for all these
people.' For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples,
'Get them to sit down in parties of about fifty.' They did so and made them all
sit down. Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven,
and said the blessing over them; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples
to distribute among the crowd. They all ate as much as they wanted, and when the
scraps remaining were collected they filled twelve baskets.
