SUNDAY COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection amounted to £1009.53. We are grateful for
your generous support of the Parish. Banker's Orders amount to an average
of £4400 per month.
BANKER'S
ORDERS, GIFT AID AND WILLS
Have you thought of using a Bankers Order? It assists
us with the safe handling of cash. Have you signed a Gift Aid Form? If you pay
tax, then every £1 you give to the Parish is worth £1.28 to us. Would
you consider remembering Saint Peter's in your will?
PARISH CENTRE COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection for the Parish Centre amounted to £403.02 - many
thanks.
READERS
Next weekend's readers are Jim Brogan at 5.30 pm,
Angela Body 10.00 am and Tom Reid 12.00 noon.
PARISH OFFICE
The Parish
Office is normally staffed each weekday from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm. Outside of these
times, there may be someone there or you can leave a message on 464063.
MASS
LEAFLETS
Mass Leaflets are our way of providing you with the Sunday Readings
and the music for Mass. You are welcome to take one home or to the housebound.
If you are not doing so, we would be grateful if you would return the Mass leaflets
to the boxes for use at a later Mass. Please try not to leave bulletins and leaflets
on the seat. It makes you and the Church look untidy. Thanks.
DOORS
OPEN DAY
Saint Peter's is one of Ayrshire's seventy finest buildings open
to the public on Sunday 7 September. The Church will be open - as it usually is
- to visitors from the 12.00 noon Mass till about 4.00 pm.
PARISH
VOLUNTEERS
Bishop Cunningham will celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving for all
the hard work and dedication given to the
Church by all volunteers in parishes. The Mass will be celebrated in Saint Margaret's
Cathedral, Ayr on Sunday 14 September at 3.30 pm. A good attendance would be greatly
appreciated as this is the first time a Mass of thanksgiving has been held. The
is a list in the porch to ascertain whether a bus should be ordered. Alternatively,
the 585 bus from Ardrossan drops within ten minutes of the Cathedral.
MARY'S
MEALS - PLEASE CAN YOU HELP?
Mary's
Meals works with some of the poorest people
in the third world countries such as Malawi, Liberia, Peru, Ecuador, India and
Uganda, amongst others. Mary's
Meals offers
help by collecting unwanted goods. They then send the goods donated as aid or
raise funds through shops for overseas projects. The
annual uplift visit will be on Sunday 7 September. From Thursday 4 to Saturday
6 September, your donations can be left in the foyer of the Parish Centre but
not at other times as we need to use the Centre and the foyer. If you are unable
to bring your own goods, please contact Frank Coulter. Mary's
Meals will
also sell raffle tickets. Currently targeted items are clothing and bedding in
any condition; other items such as shoes, bags, jewellery and accessories, books,
records, CDs, DVDs, bric-a-brac, ornaments, china, kitchenware, pictures, curtains,
small rugs in saleable condition. Mary's
Meals have
to dispose of a large amount of donated items such as furniture which only adds
to its overheads. On average, two black bags of clothing including rags earns
£6. The sum of £5.30 feeds a child for a year! Mary's
Meals could
not survive without your kind donations. Photographs of recent years' visits
by Scottish International
Relief are on the Pictures
page.
CHILDREN'S
LITURGY
The Children's Liturgy will resume for three to five year olds and
Primary 1 to Primary 3 pupils on Sunday 7 September. The Children's sacramental
programme will start a couple of weeks later.
SAINT
ANNE'S GUILD
Saint
Anne's Guild starts again on Tuesday 2 September at 7.00 pm.
NATIONAL
PILGRIMAGE TO CARFIN
The annual pilgrimage to Carfin takes place on Sunday
7 September in honour of Saint Margaret, Patroness and Queen of Scotland. Mass
will be celebrated at 3.00 pm by Cardinal O'Brien and Bishop Devine of Motherwell
will preach. This being the on hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the apparitions
of Our Blessed Lady to Saint Bernadette in Lourdes, the Bishops of Scotland hope
we might make an extra effort to attend, particularly for those of us who cannot
visit Lourdes itself. We will share a coach with local parishes. Please commit
to the day by signing-up at the back of Church as spaces are limited. The cost
is approximately £5 per head. To allow time in Carfin to visit the whole
shrine, shop and Visitor's Centre before Mass, the coach will depart from Saint
Brendan's Church
at 11.30 am and Saint
Mary's Church
at 11.45 am. You should get home between 7.30 and 8.00 pm.
50/50
CLUB
The August draw for the 50/50 Club will take place this weekend. Good
luck to all. The next collection is due in September so please make sure you are
up-to-date before the bonus draw for £100. Many thanks to all our members
for their continued support. New members are always welcome. To join please contact
Mrs Sammons.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
We have had a health and survey done
and there are some things which require to be done. Cars are travelling into and
out of the car park too quickly so signs with a five miles per hour limit are
going up. New first aid equipment will be available at the stall and in the Parish
Centre. We are looking at a 'zebra' type of marking on the path where pedestrians
cross the car park entrance. New fire notices and emergency lighting will have
to be displayed in the Church and Centre and a designated assembly point will
be marked in the car park. We are looking for a few members of a Health and Safety
committee to oversee all of this. If you can help, please tell Canon
Matt.
GIVE BLOOD
If you can never find the time to give blood, here
it is - Civic Centre, Glasgow Street, Ardrossan on Wednesday 3 September from
2.30 to 3.45 pm and 5.15 to 7.30 pm.
IGNATIAN PRAYER GROUPS
The Ignatian
Prayer Groups will resume on Wednesday 3 September at 7.30 pm in the Parish Centre,
then on Tuesday 9 September at 7.30 pm and Tuesday 30 September at 2.00 pm. After
this Groups will be held every first Wednesday of the month at 7.30 pm, every
second Tuesday at 7.30 pm and every last Tuesday at 2.00 pm.
PROTECTION
OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS - MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Church in
Scotland is concerned with the lives, safety, wholeness and well-being of each
individual person within God's purpose for everyone. It seeks to safeguard the
welfare of people of all ages who are involved in whatever capacity with the Church
and its organisations. As a Church community, we accept that it is the responsibility
of all of us, ordained, professed, paid and voluntary members, to work together
to prevent the physical,
sexual, emotional abuse or neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
