OFFERTORY COLLECTION
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £733.16. We are grateful
for your generous support of the Parish. Banker's Orders amount to an average
of £4000 per month.
BANKER'S ORDERS, GIFT AID AND WILLS
Have
you thought of using a Bankers Order? It assists us with the safe handling of
cash. Have you signed a Gift Aid Form? If you pay tax, then every £1 you
give to the Parish is worth £1.28 to us. Would you consider remembering
Saint Peter's in your will?
PARISH
CENTRE COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection for the Parish Centre amounted
to £393.33 - many thanks.
MISSION
APPEAL
Father Donato Godfredo of the Comboni Missionaries is here this weekend
for a Mission Appeal. The appeal means that today’s second collection is for the
Comboni Missions. Having this appeal so hard on the heels of the Education Sunday
collection, the Aid to the Church in Need collection and not very long after Christmas
places a heavy burden on your generosity and on our income to reduce the debt
on the Parish Centre. The fact that they are so close is entirely my fault and
I apologise. However the causes are very necessary and I simply ask you to contribute
what you can. The Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund Lenten appeal will
be along soon and I feel we should also help Saint Matthew’s Academy in its sponsorship
of its twin school, Saint Peter’s in Malawi but we can put that off for a couple
of months.
MASS FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
The annual Mass for all members
of the medical, nursing and health professions will take place today, Sunday 15
February in Saint Andrew’s Cathedral, Glasgow at 12.00 noon. Mass will be followed
by a reception in the Eyre Hall, Clyde Street.
READERS
Next
weekend's readers are Margaret Brogan at 5.30 pm, Angela Body at 10.00 am and
Tom Reid at 12.00 noon. New readers are always welcome. Please talk to Canon
Matt about it. For a parish of our size we really have a very small cohort
of Readers. Surely you could exercise this ministry.
EUCHARISTIC
MINISTERS
We are short of special ministers of Holy Communion, especially for
the 12 noon Mass. Please give your name to Canon
Matt. As with readers, you don’t have to extra holy or extra good
- just one of God’s children willing to serve the community by giving of your
time and energy. Some of our sick and elderly are not able to get Holy Communion
at home due to no special minister able to go to them regularly. So, in church
or taking communion to someone at home - you could help.
HOSPITALITÉ
DE NOTRE DAME DE LOURDES
Hospitalité de Notre Dame de Lourdes is the
group which organises the pilgrimage to Lourdes every second year. Our group will
be going on pilgrimage from 6 to 13 July this year. In order to ensure the pilgrimage
is a success, the group is in urgent need of trained nurses and carers to work
as part of a medical team caring for the sick pilgrims of our diocese. Male and
female helpers for general duties are also required. If you are interested or
would like more information, please contact Debbie Gillon on 07531 016747. Thank
you.
We have the booking details for ordinary pilgrims.
GALLOWAY
LOURDES HOSPITALITÉ
The
Galloway Lourdes Hospitalité
is the group that organises the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. Its Annual
General Meeting, preceded
by Mass with anointing of the sick, will be held on Sunday 15 February at 3.30
pm in Sacred Heart Parish, Girvan. Tea and coffee will be served after Mass. All
are welcome.
PARISH RECORDS
Thank you to those who have already
filled a Parish Records form in. The list we are using to find you all is from
Father Lynch’s time and is pretty much out of date with people moving, changing
phone numbers, moving in ans so on. Would you oblige us by filling in a form and
placing it in the box? Even if you think that we have your information, we are
lacking some basic information such as first names, postcodes and so on. If your
phone number is ex-directory, please mark that. All information will be kept confidential.
This means that you cannot phone here for someone’s address - data protection
does not allow that. Filling in the form is simply a polite request to assist
us – you certainly do not have to do it.
BLOOD TRANSFUSION SERVICE
The
Blood Transfusion Service will be at the Civic Centre, Glasgow Street on Wednesday
25 February from 2.30 to 3.45 then 5.15 to 7.30 pm.
CHILDREN'S
LITURGY
The Chidren's Liturgy is always looking for helpers. Volunteers cannot
simply be recruited as they are required - we are subject to a strict regime from
Disclosure Scotland. This means all volunteers have to complete the form and then
await clearance but we need some more volunteers to ensure that there is a rota
and that you are not on too frequently. Please give your name to Annie Watt or
Canon Matt.
If your child is due to receive the Sacraments next year, this would be a good
time to volunteer! Do it today! Please note that if you have not been 'disclosed'
you cannot join the children at their Liturgy. You must simply leave them in the
hall. If the children are unwilling to stay with the volunteers on duty you might
have to wait till they are older and able to do so. Older brothers and sisters
cannot just go with them. We have signed up to a strict policy that only those
who have been 'disclosed' can be with the children and there can be no exceptions.
SAINT
PETER’S CHILDREN’S CENTRE
A few afternoon places are available in the nursery
starting in August 2009 for children who have reached their third birthday. For
more information and to register phone Josephine.
QUIZ NIGHT
There will
be a Quiz Night in Barony Church Hall on Friday 27 Feb at 7.30 pm. Bring your
own bottle and pay at the door.
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS
- MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Church in Scotland is concerned with the
lives, safety, wholeness and well-being of each individual person within God's
purpose for everyone. It seeks to safeguard the welfare of people of all ages
who are involved in whatever capacity with
the Church and its organisations. As a Church community, we accept that it is
the responsibility of all of us, ordained, professed, paid and voluntary members,
to work together to prevent the physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect of
children, young people and vulnerable adults.
