DOM CHARLES
Dom Charles, a Ugandan Cistercian Abbot presently staying in the Cistercian
Monastery at Portglenone, Northern Ireland, so enjoyed his visit that he says
he will be back again!
BURNS SUPPER
The Burns Supper last Saturday evening was a very successful event. Many thanks
to the organisers and to the back-room staff. A special word of thanks to
Michael and Fiona Brown, Monica Taylor, Robin Reid, Ciaran Sinclair, Bill
Andrew, George McGrattan and Michael McCulloch - our 'home-grown' talent and
to our guest speakers all of whom gave us much to laugh at - and taught us
a little more about Robert Burns’ poetry and songs.
CHURCH HEATING
The new church heating system is now paid for! Many thanks for your donations
of £8657.
CHURCH REPAIRS
Too much rain over the last few months means that the Church doors are damaged.
They will be removed for a few weeks to dry out and be resealed. We will try
to minimise the inconvenience. We sustained a lot of storm damage to the house,
Church, parish centre and to the tower in recent storms and more lead was
stolen. Repairs are taking some time and most of the cost - around £8000
- will be carried by our insurance company. Like everyone else, we will have
to find some of the cost ourselves. Brown envelope donations of £180
plus £500 from the Burns Supper bring the total to £800.
GALLOWAY LOURDES HOSPITALITÉ
The annual general meeting of the Lourdes Hospitalité is in Ardrossan
this year on Sunday 19 February. There is Mass for the Sick with the Sacrament
of the Anointing of the sick at 3.30 pm followed by the meeting and tea in
the Hall. All are welcome.
ADULT FAITH FORMATION
This series in Adult Faith Formation continues with a study day looking at
the Catechism of the Catholic Church, focussing on the Sacraments. It takes
place in Saint Quivox Church Hall, Prestwick on Saturday 18 February from
11.30 am to 3.00 pm. Why not give it a try?
PATHWAY TO PRAYER 2012
Pathway to Prayer will be held on Saturday 24 March in Saint Meddan’s Church
Hall, Troon from 9.45 am to 4.30 pm. It is a day to explore our relationship
with God through prayer.
SISTERS FROM THE CONVENT OF SAINT ELISABETH, MINSK, BELARUS
Sisters from the Convent of Saint Elisabeth, Minsk, Belarus - a community
of the Orthodox Church - are visiting the parish on Saturday evening 18 and
Sunday 19 February to sell icons, crucifixes and so on made in the convent.
It is in aid of their orphans and psychiatric patients. There will be a stall
in the porch or Parish Centre.
PAPAL BLESSINGS
Papal Blessings for a wedding, wedding anniversary or a special birthday can
be ordered at the stall. The cost of the parchment and postage is about £30.
Please leave plenty of time.
NEW MISSAL
New Missals containing the new Rite are now available at the stall £7.99
or £9.99.
LARGE PRINT MASS BOOKS
Mass Books in Polish are available from the stall. Sunday Readings in most
European languages can be printed from the parish website.
VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Mass? Please know that you are very welcome. During
the 10.00 am Mass there is a Children’s Liturgy provided for preschool children,
children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental Programme for children in Primary
4. After the 10.00 am Mass, tea, coffee cakes and buns are available in the
Parish Centre. At all of our weekend Masses, we have a second collection for
our Parish Centre debt.
CHERNOBYL CHILDREN'S LIFELINE
There will be a group of sixteen children coming from the Ukraine to Ayrshire
from 20 February to 19 March. We are in need of new pyjamas, underwear and
socks for boys and girls aged 9 to 14. A charity ceilidh in aid of Chernobyl
Children’s Lifeline will be held in the Seamill Hydro, West Kilbride on Saturday
4 February from 7.30pm to 12.30 am. Ticket costing £20 include supper,
Irish bingo ticket and a complimentary drink. All are welcome. If you have
anything to donate, would be interested in finding out more about the charity
or attending the ceilidh please contact Michael or Lisa Lafferty on 461234
or 07813 650411. Thanks.
SACRAMENTS OF CONFIRMATION AND FIRST COMMUNION
We have chosen three Sundays this year because of the number of children being
presented for the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion. The dates
are Sundays 13, 20 and 27 May. There is a list of the three dates at the back
of the Church. Please fill in your preferred Sunday. I would hope for about
ten children each Sunday because of available room in the Church, but the
choice is completely yours as parents and guardians. Please remember that
you can alter your choice if the circumstances change. Just be sure to let
me know. A few are still to sign up.
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS - MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Church in Scotland is concerned with the lives, safety, wholeness
and well-being of each individual person within God's purpose for everyone.
It seeks to safeguard the welfare of people of all ages who are involved in
whatever capacity with
the Church and its organisations. As a Church community, we accept that it
is the responsibility of all of us, ordained, professed, paid and
voluntary members, to work together to prevent the physical, sexual, emotional
abuse or neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
