be said for our 'learning communities' at the Masses this weekend.
LENT
The six weeks of Lent prepare us for Easter. Wednesday of this week is Ash
Wednesday. It asks us to begin a period of prayer, penance and almsgiving.
The days are precious. Receiving the blessed ashes on Ash Wednesday signifies
that we are intending to do penance and change our lives. They are not magic,
just a sign of penance. There will be Mass in the morning and in the evening
and ashes will be offered in the school. During Lent, do without something
you like but don’t need. Share something of what you have with the poor at
home or abroad. Make a little time for prayer each day.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Stations of the Cross are prayed on Friday mornings during Lent at 9.40 am.
LENTEN TAIZÉ SERVICES
There will be an opportunity to pray quietly with a few Taizé chants
and some readings in Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, South Crescent Road
at 7.30 pm each Wednesday evening in Lent starting on 29 February.
50/50 CLUB WINNERS
Our congratulations go to our 50/50 Club winners for January. 146 Angelo Farro
wins the Early-Bird Draw of £50. Other winners for January who each
win £25 are 23 Lorraine Stevenson, 206 Ella Cavani, 54 Karen Brodie
and 83 Gerard Coulter. Many thanks to our Collectors who help so much during
the year and to all new members. We hope 2012 is a good year. To those who
have still to renew their membership, our next draw takes place on the last
Sunday in February. You need to be in it to win it. Anyone who wishes to join
the 50/50 Club can contact the promoter Mrs Myriame Sammons or telephone 469006.
CHURCH REPAIRS
Too much rain over the last few months means that the Church doors are damaged.
They will be removed for a few weeks to dry out and be resealed. We will try
to minimise the inconvenience. We sustained a lot of storm damage to the house,
Church, parish centre and to the tower in recent storms. We have leaks and
more lead was stolen. Repairs are taking some time and most of the cost -
around £8000 - will be carried by our insurance company. Like everyone
else, we will have to find some of the cost ourselves. Brown envelope donations
of £122.50 bring the total to £994.50.
GALLOWAY LOURDES HOSPITALITÉ
The annual general meeting of the Lourdes Hospitalité is in Ardrossan
this year on Sunday 19 February. There is Mass for the Sick with the Sacrament
of the Anointing of the sick at 3.30 pm followed by the meeting and tea in
the Hall. All are welcome.
BLOOD TRANSFUSION SERVICE
The Blood Transfusion Service will be at the Civic Centre, Ardrossan on Tuesday
28 and Wedneday 29 February from 2.30 to 3.45 pm and 5.15 to 7.30 pm.
CHERNOBYL CHILDREN’S LIFELINE
On behalf of the Chernobyl Children's Lifeline, Michael Lafferty thanks everyone
who donated clothing or money towards the charity appeal. It has had so many
donations there is enough for both groups of children. The first group of
sixteen from Ukraine arrives on the 20 February and another group of sixteen
from Belarus arrives on Monday 23 July. Both visits last four weeks. Your
generosity is very much appreciated. We are always looking for new host families
to help look after the children during their visit to Ayrshire. If you think
you could help in any way please contact Michael Lafferty or phone 07813 650411.
Michael is more than happy to give a talk on the charity to any interested
group. More detail can be seen on www.ccll.org.uk/ayrshire.
PATHWAY TO PRAYER 2012

be ordered at the stall. The cost of the parchment and postage is about £30.
Please leave plenty of time.
NEW MISSAL

or £9.99.

the 10.00 am Mass there is a Children’s Liturgy provided for preschool children,
children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental Programme for children in Primary
4. After the 10.00 am Mass, tea, coffee cakes and buns are available in the
Parish Centre. At all of our weekend Masses, we have a second collection for
our Parish Centre debt.
SUNDAY LUNCH FOR SENIOR PARISHIONERS
A Sunday Lunch for senior parishioners is planned - watch this space.
SACRAMENTS OF CONFIRMATION AND FIRST COMMUNION
We have chosen three Sundays this year because of the number of children being
presented for the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion. The dates
are Sundays 13, 20 and 27 May. There is a list of the three dates at the back
of the Church. Please fill in your preferred Sunday. I would hope for about
ten children each Sunday because of available room in the Church, but the
choice is completely yours as parents and guardians. Please remember that
you can alter your choice if the circumstances change. Just be sure to let
me know. A few are still to sign up.
THANKS
Grateful thanks to Saint Clare for favours received. May the Sacred Heart
of Jesus be praised, adored and glorified and loved today and every day throughout
the world, Amen. DJ.
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS - MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Church in Scotland is concerned with the lives, safety, wholeness
and well-being of each individual person within God's purpose for everyone.
It seeks to safeguard the welfare of people of all ages who are involved in
whatever capacity with
the Church and its organisations. As a Church community, we accept that it
is the responsibility of all of us, ordained, professed, paid and
voluntary members, to work together to prevent the physical, sexual, emotional
abuse or neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
