SACRAMENT OF FORGIVENESS
The Sacrament of Forgiveness is available at any suitable time as well as from 4.30 pm before the Vigil Mass on Saturday evenings.

OFFERTORY COLLECTION
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £689.95 - many thanks. We are grateful for your generous support of the parish and the diocese to which we pay a monthly levy of £1250.

PARISH CENTRE COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection for the Parish Centre amounted to £274.44 - many thanks.

Have you thought of using a Bankers Order? It assists us with the safe handling of cash. Banker's Orders for the Parish and Centre amount to an average of £3800 per month. Forms are available.

GIFT AID
Gift Aid is a vital source of income. All that is needed is that you pay tax. You simply declare that you give funds to the Church. We do the rest. Why not sign a form today? We get back an extra 25p for every £1 you give the Church in your weekly collection or by way of a donation. There is no need to cancel or renew it. We simply claim in the income we receive.

CHURCH REPAIRS
The help you give for Church repairs by dropping in a white envelope from time to time is invaluable. We are in the process of getting estimates for the painting of the Church. Recent donations of £120 bring the total to £4064.50.

FEAST OF ALL SAINTS
Thursday 1 November is All Saints Day. It is a Holyday of Obligation. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 7.00 pm and Thursday at 10.00 am.

CHRISTMAS GREETINGS
Instead of local Christmas cards this year, would you be interested in taking a 'greetings square' in a supplement to the Sunday Bulletin? A sample is available at the stall. In exchange for a donation to Church funds, we could publish your greetings to friends in the parish. We could take about sixty and would publish it for two weeks before Christmas. Envelopes for your message and a donation are available at the stall.

SUNDAY MASS TIMES
The letter below explains why we need to make changes to the Mass times in each of the local parishes. For us, the partnership with Saltcoats, Stevenston, and Kilwinning is the most obvious arrangement. The Mass times have to reflect a smaller number of priests and a drop in Mass attendance on a regular basis, while safeguarding each individual parish. Times require to enable one priest to cover for another. We have tried to keep the changes to a minimum but they are necessary and they may cause you a bit of inconvenience at first. Please try to adapt and please do your best to celebrate Mass in your own parish if possible. Revised Mass times in each parish will be announced next weekend.

Bishop Cunningham has asked each Deanery to look very closely at how we can best serve the needs of our people in the coming years with regard to Sunday Mass. We have a smaller number of priests, priests getting older, only one student preparing for priesthood, fewer people attending Mass regularly, higher heating, lighting and maintenance costs - and very little prospect of turning these facts around in the near future. As your priests, we know that we need to rationalise the number of Masses and be willing to assist one another so that we will be able to celebrate Mass with you without any change to the normal programme as far as possible. Other parts of the Diocese are already making changes. For example, Saint Margaret's Parish in Irvine will close and the parish will amalgamate with Saint Mary's; Saint Peter's Parish in Dalbeattie, the oldest parish in our diocese, is now without a resident priest and will be linked with Kirkcudbright, Castle Douglas and Gatehouse of Fleet - one priest where there were three; the parishes in Kilmarnock have reduced the number of Masses. There are other examples. We have been working on a plan to try to ensure the future Mass arrangements in Kilwinning, Stevenston Saltcoats, and Ardrossan. Our plan is to enable the Sunday Mass programme to be uninterrupted by illness of a priest, retiral or holidays. We should no longer count on help from retired priests or priests from elsewhere - this help is still available, we are grateful for it, but it does not offer a long-term solution. The real solution lies in our own hands by
   - cutting the number of Masses to what we can realistically offer to accommodate the numbers at Mass
   - asking each of the priests to offer Mass in a neighbouring parish from time to time and that will mean
     changing some Mass times to enable us to travel. We will keep change to a minimum.
   - all of us praying that some our number will offer themselves for Priesthood and for the Diaconate.
   - supporting and encouraging each other while we re-adjust to the realities of the twenty-first century.
     Criticism is understandable but not very helpful. Not everyone, priests or people, will be happy with
     the new arrangements but there are few alternatives open to us.
We still have a few details to work on but the new Mass times will be announced next weekend and the changes will take place on the First Sunday of Advent, 2 December. It is important to us that you understand why we must make change now and not wait till change is forced on us. We could leave things as they are - but it would not be for long. It is better to think ahead and make our plans now. As far as humanly possible Funerals, Weddings, Confirmations, First Communions and so on will always be celebrated in your own parish by your own priest, and your Sunday Mass should be celebrated in your own parish with your own parish priest but with changes to the Mass times you might wish or need to make a change and attend Mass in a neighbouring parish from time to time. Please be assured that all of this comes after much thought and prayer - none of us likes change.

LAPEL CROSSES
Cardinal O’Brien called on all Catholics to 'wear a cross with pride' these days. We have a few lapel crosses available at the stall.

YEAR OF FAITH
Pope Benedict has called on all Catholics to celebrate a Year of Faith from October 2012 to October 2013. It is a time to renew our faith by prayer, by studying our faith and by renewed charity. It is something we can all do both privately and publically. Our country has lost its faith and its way. We each must play our part in renewing faith in God’s goodness and His word. The Year of Faith National Opening Mass will be held in Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral, Motherwell at 3.00 pm on Sunday 4 November. The Year of Faith Diary is available at the stall. It runs from October 2012 to October 2013 and will be useful. It costs £2.95. To mark the Year of Faith, the Bishops of Scotland have set up a special website and social media feeds to help us learn about all that is happening at local, national and international level and to assist us to grow in faith during this time of grace. SCOTTISH CHURCHES STARTER PACKS
Starter Packs is an initiative of the Scottish Churches organised locally by Women's Aid. When people are allocated a house, they very often don’t have the basic necessities and many tenancies fail as a result. This initiative tries to provide a starter pack. There is a leaflet explaining our part in it.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
There will be a Remembrance Day Service in the Evangelical Union Church, Ardrossan at 1.00 pm.

CEMETERY MASS
The annual Mass in the Cemetery for the parishioners of Ardrossan and Saltcoats will be held on Sunday 18 November at 2.00 pm.


SAINT MARY'S LOURDES GROUP
Saint Mary’s Lourdes Group is hosting a Sunday Roast Lunch in Saint Mary’s Church Hall, Saltcoats at 1.00 pm - after 12 o’clock Mass on Sunday 21 October. Tickets cost £5 with all proceeds going the Saint Mary’s Lourdes Group. BLOOD TRANSFUSION SERVICE
You can donate blood at Ardrossan Civic Centre on Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 October between 2.30 and 3.45 pm and 5.15 and 7.30 pm.

ARDROSSAN CASTLE HERITAGE SOCIETY
Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society is holding a Fundraising Dance with buffet and disco in the Laurieston Hotel on Friday 26 October from 7.30 pm to 12.30 am. Tickets, costing £10, are available by telephoning 464733.

PAPAL BLESSINGS
Papal Blessings for a wedding, wedding anniversary or a special birthday can be ordered at the stall. The price of the parchment and postage has gone up drastically. We now have to ask £40 for the Blessing. Please leave plenty of time.

NEW MISSAL
New Missals containing the new Rite are now available at the stall £7.99 or £9.99.

LARGE PRINT MASS BOOKS
Mass Books in Polish are available from the stall. Sunday Readings in most European languages can be printed from the parish website.

NOVENA CANDLES AND GRAVE CANDLES
There is a nice selection of Novena and Grave Candles available at the stall.

VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Mass? Please know that you are very welcome. During the 10.00 am Mass there is a Children’s Liturgy provided for preschool children, children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental Programme for children in Primary 4. After the 10.00 am Mass, tea, coffee cakes and buns are available in the Parish Centre. At all of our weekend Masses, we have a second collection for our Parish Centre debt.

USED PRINTER CARTRIDGES AND OLD MOBILE PHONES
There is now a large green box in the foyer of the Parish Centre and a small box at the stall where you can place all old printer cartridges and mobile phones for us to recycle. Through recycling these we can raise some much needed funds. Thanks.
