SUNDAY MASS TIMES
Sunday Mass times
in Saint Peter's are 5.30 pm Vigil and 10.30 am. Sunday
Mass times in other local parishes can be
seen here.
SACRAMENT OF FORGIVENESS
The Sacrament of Forgiveness is available at any suitable time as well as
from 4.30 pm before the Vigil Mass on Saturday evenings.
FINANCES
Bankers Orders the Parish and Parish Centre amount to £3800 per month.
Every month, we pay off our Parish Centre debt by £3000 and pay a levy
of £1450 to the Diocese. We are grateful for your generous support in
collections. If you can manage a little more from time to time, it would be
a great help. Have you thought of using a Bankers Order? It assists us with
the safe handling of cash. Banker's Orders for the Parish and Centre amount
to an average of £3800 per month. Forms are available. Would you consider
remembering Saint Peter's in your will?
OFFERTORY COLLECTION
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £665.30 - many thanks.
PARISH
CENTRE COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection for the Parish Centre amounted to £290.86
- many thanks.
CHURCH REPAIRS
The help you give for Church repairs by dropping in a white envelope from
time to time is invaluable. We have a continuing task in keeping the Church
wind and watertight. We are grateful for a recent donation of £10. New
doors have been installed in the Parish Centre.
GIFT AID
The Inland Revenue now requires us to use a new style of Gift Aid form. These
are available at the back of the Church. If you pay tax, please complete the
new form and return it to the box provided. This allows us to provide the
additional information required on the Gift Aid claim. Gift Aid is a vital
source of income. All that is needed is that you pay tax. You simply declare
that you give funds to the Church. We do the rest. Why not sign a form today?
We get back an extra 25p for every £1 you give the Church in your weekly
collection or by way of a donation. There is no need to cancel or renew it.
We simply claim in the income we receive.
READERS
Next weekend's readers are Celia Andrew at 5.30
pm and Margaret Harvey at 10.30 am.
ALTAR SERVERS
Next weekend's altar servers are Group 2 at 5.30 pm and Group 5 at
10.30 am.
SUNDAY TEAS
Next Sunday's teas will be served by Sharon McLaughlin’s
team.
CHILDREN'S LITURGY
The Children's Liturgy restarts in September.
SAIL TO CAMPBELTOWN
The crusie to Campbeltown was voted a great success by everyone who was there.
About seventy parishioners and friends were on the sailing.
SEVENTY-FIFTH
ANNIVERSARY OF SAINT PETER'S
Our Church, Saint Peter in Chains, was opened on 2 October 1938 which means
it will be seventy-five years open this October. We are looking to arrange
some small celebration of the event. Were you at the opening Mass? It would
be good to have a list of those who were there - perhaps, your parents or
family friends, and so on. George McGrattan will compile a list. Do you have
any photographs of the opening Mass or of memorable events of the seventy-five
years? We could make a DVD of them to show at our celebration. The photos
would be returned to you. We will have a celebration Mass - probably on the
following Saturday evening and a buffet supper after Mass - sorry, no disco
music - with time to chat. I will be looking for helpers later and some more
ideas.
CHRISTIAN AID BARBECUE
As you know, we do not take part in the door-to-door collection for Christian
Aid. I do not like the idea so, instead, we continue the tradition of having
a summer barbecue for Christian Aid and we ask the help of the other churches
in the town through the Ardrossan Churches Group. The barbecue will take place
on Saturday 17 August in the Parish Centre and grounds. As well as the barbecue,
there will be teas, book stall, bottle stall and space for individual stalls
or 'car boots.' There is no entry fee but advance tickets are on sale for
those who cannot attend to enable them to make a donation to Christian Aid.
If you are willing to help, please come to a short meeting in the presbytery
on Wednesday at 7.00 pm.
SPECIAL RELIGIOUS DEVELOPMENT GROUP - SPRED IN STEVENSTON
SPRED is a journey in faith and friendship with our parishioners who have
learning difficulties. A group meets in Saint John’s Hall, Stevenston on a
Wednesday evening from 7.00 to 9.00 pm. Volunteers are required for the continuing
of this beautiful ministry. No experience is necessary as training will be
given. Could you consider offering yourself during this Year of Faith? If
you would like to know more, please contact Liz Petrie on 467296.
50/50 CLUB
Many thanks to all members for your continued support - it is appreciated.
If you would like to join the 50/50 Club and have the chance to win prizes,
please contact the Promoter, Mrs Myriame Sammons on 01294 469006.
DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES
The Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes got off to a good start with the meeting
of old friends at Prestwick Airport and a smooth flight into Lourdes. Assisted
pilgrims were very well looked after on the flight and then at the Welcome
Hotel in Lourdes. The youth of the diocese worked very hard to ensure the
assisted pilgrims were kept comfortable and that their every need was met.
The young people also entertained the group with songs, music and skits. They
really excelled themselves. Well done to the youth of Galloway - you made
us very proud. The devastation in Lourdes caused by the recent flooding was
heart-breaking. It was a relief to see that many hotels and businesses were
operating normally. The organisation of the pilgrimage was impressive and
everyone was treated with consideration and respect by organisers and helpers.
Thank you very much. The next diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes is in July 2015.
Helpers are always needed and the pilgrimage could not take place without
our young people so think about coming with the diocese in two years time.
It is an experience never to be forgotten.
SAINT PADRE PIO INTERCESSORY PRAYER GROUP
The Saint Padre Pio Intercessory Group meets on the first Friday of every
month in the Parish Centre after Mass from about 10.45 am to 12 noon.
USED PRINTER CARTRIDGES AND OLD MOBILE PHONES
There is a large green box in the foyer of the Parish Centre and a small box
at the stall where you can place all old printer cartridges and mobile phones
for us to recycle. Through recycling these, we can raise some much-needed
funds. Thanks.
STARTER PACKS
Starter packs is an initiative of the Scottish Churches organised locally
by Women's Aid. When people are allocated a house they very often don’t have
the basic necessities and many tenancies fail as a result. This initiative
tries to provide a starter pack. There is a leaflet explaining our part in
it.
THE STALL
The stall is open at all Mass times during the week and at the weekend. Mass
cards, large print Mass books, Mass books, Papal Blessings, lapel crosses,
novena candles, grave candles and many other religious goods are available
from the stall.
VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Mass? Please know that you are very welcome. During
the 10.30 am Mass outwith holidays, there is a Children’s Liturgy provided
for preschool children, children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental Programme
for children in Primary 4. After the 10.30 am Mass, tea, coffee cakes and
buns are available in the Parish Centre. At both of our weekend Masses, we
have a second collection for our Parish Centre debt.
ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE TO WHITHORN
The annual pilgrimage to Whithorn takes place on Sunday 25 August 2013 with
Mass at Saint Ninian’s Cave at 4.00 pm and an extra Mass in Saint Ninian’s
Church at 4.45 pm for those who cannot make the journey to the cave.
ADVERTISER SUPPORT
Our advertisers would welcome your support. We are grateful for their continuing
sponsorship. We are grateful for the support of Mr and Mrs Sohal, Nisa Stores,
Glasgow Street for the weekly donation of tea, coffee and milk for the Sunday
teas.
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS - MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Church in Scotland is concerned with the lives, safety, wholeness
and well-being of each individual person within God's purpose for everyone.
It seeks to safeguard the welfare of people of all ages who are involved in
whatever capacity with
the Church and its organisations. As a Church community, we accept that it
is the responsibility of all of us, ordained, professed, paid and
voluntary members, to work together to prevent the physical, sexual, emotional
abuse or neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
