FINANCES
Bankers Orders for the parish and Parish Centre amount to £3800 per
month. Every month, we pay off our Parish Centre debt by £3000 and pay
a levy of £1450 to the Diocese. We are grateful for your generous support
in collections. If you can manage a little more from time to time, it would
be a great help. Have you thought of using a Bankers Order? It assists us
with the safe handling of cash. Banker's Orders for the Parish and Centre
amount to an average of £3800 per month. Forms are available. Would
you consider remembering Saint Peter's in your will?
OFFERTORY COLLECTION
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £649.11 - many thanks.
PARISH
CENTRE COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection for the Parish Centre amounted to £258.66
- many thanks.
CHURCH REPAIRS
The help you give for Church repairs by dropping in a white envelope from
time to time is invaluable. We have a continuing task in keeping the Church
wind and watertight. We are grateful for a recent donation of £10. New
doors have been installed in the Parish Centre.
GIFT AID
The Inland Revenue now requires us to use a new style of Gift Aid form. These
are available at the back of the Church. If you pay tax, please complete the
new form and return it to the box provided. This allows us to provide the
additional information required on the Gift Aid claim. Gift Aid is a vital
source of income. All that is needed is that you pay tax. You simply declare
that you give funds to the Church. We do the rest. Why not sign a form today?
We get back an extra 25p for every £1 you give the Church in your weekly
collection or by way of a donation. There is no need to cancel or renew it.
We simply claim in the income we receive.

SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF SAINT PETER'S
Our Church, Saint Peter in Chains, was opened on 2 October 1938 which means
it will be seventy-five years open this October. We are looking to arrange
some small celebration of the event. Were you at the opening Mass? It would
be good to have a list of those who were there - perhaps, your parents or
family friends, and so on. George McGrattan will compile a list. Do you have
any photographs of the opening Mass or of memorable events of the seventy-five
years? The photos would be returned to you. The photograph below is of five
entertainers who may have performed at functions in the mid 1930s to raise
funds to build Saint Peter's. If you can identify anybody in the photo, please
tell Canon
Matt or George McGrattan. We will have a celebration Mass
- probably on the following Saturday evening and a buffet supper after Mass
- sorry, no disco music - with time to chat. I will be looking for helpers
later and some more ideas.
CHRISTIAN AID BARBECUE
The Christian Aid Barbecue will take place on Saturday 17 August in the Parish
Centre and grounds, starting at 12 noon. As well as the barbecue, there will
be teas, a book stall, a bottle stall and space for individual stalls or car
boots. If you wish to set up a stall costing £10, please phone 464063
to book the space. We need help with stalls. Donations of home baking and
bottles of all sorts very welcome. There is no entry fee but advance are tickets
on sale for those who cannot attend to enable them to make a donation of £1
to Christian Aid.
MARY’S MEALS CLOTHING AND TEXTILES COLLECTION
The team from Mary's Meals
will be here on the weekend of 21 and 22 September to collect used clothing
and textiles. They cannot take anything else. Have a wardrobe clear-out to
support this important charity.
MARY’S MEALS BACKPACK PROJECT
A few retired teachers have been involved in the Mary's
Meals Backpack Project for the past four years. So far, we have filled
835 backpacks which have been sent to Malawi. We are preparing to send another
one hundred soon. We are looking for some more empty backpacks. If your child
has a backpack which is no longer needed, we would be glad to recycle any
which are in reasonable condition. We also accept new ones, of course. There
will be a box in the Church porch for the next few weeks to collect any new
or used backpacks. There are also some magazines which you may like to read.
If you would like any more information, please phone 467161.

USED PRINTER CARTRIDGES AND OLD MOBILE PHONES
There is a large green box in the foyer of the Parish Centre and a small box
at the stall where you can place all old printer cartridges and mobile phones
for us to recycle. Through recycling these, we can raise some much-needed
funds. Thanks.
STARTER PACKS
Starter packs is an initiative of the Scottish Churches organised locally
by Women's Aid. When people are allocated a house they very often don’t have
the basic necessities and many tenancies fail as a result. This initiative
tries to provide a starter pack. There is a leaflet explaining our part in
it.
THE STALL
The stall is open at all Mass times during the week and at the weekend. Mass
cards, large print Mass books, Mass books, Papal Blessings, lapel crosses,
novena candles, grave candles and many other religious goods are available
from the stall.
VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Mass? Please know that you are very welcome. During
the 10.30 am Mass outwith holidays, there is a Children’s Liturgy provided
for preschool children, children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental Programme
for children in Primary 4. After the 10.30 am Mass, tea, coffee cakes and
buns are available in the Parish Centre. At both of our weekend Masses, we
have a second collection for our Parish Centre debt.
ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE TO WHITHORN
The annual pilgrimage to Whithorn takes place on Sunday 25 August 2013 with
Mass at Saint Ninian’s Cave at 4.00 pm and an extra Mass in Saint Ninian’s
Church at 4.45 pm for those who cannot make the journey to the cave.
ADVERTISER SUPPORT
Our advertisers would welcome your support. We are grateful for their continuing
sponsorship. We are grateful for the support of Mr and Mrs Sohal, Nisa Stores,
Glasgow Street for the weekly donation of tea, coffee and milk for the Sunday
teas.
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS - MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Church in Scotland is concerned with the lives, safety, wholeness
and well-being of each individual person within God's purpose for everyone.
It seeks to safeguard the welfare of people of all ages who are involved in
whatever capacity with
the Church and its organisations. As a Church community, we accept that it
is the responsibility of all of us, ordained, professed, paid and
voluntary members, to work together to prevent the physical, sexual, emotional
abuse or neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
