FINANCES
Bankers Orders for the Parish and Parish Centre amount to £3500 per month. We are grateful for your generous support in collections. If you can manage a little more from time to time, it would be a great help. A Standing Order would make the handling of money so much easier. Have you signed a Gift Aid form? If you are a taxpayer the Church would get 25p added to every £1 you donate.

COLLECTIONS
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £603.12 and the Maintenance Fund collection to £270.84 - thanks.

GIFT AID
The Inland Revenue now requires us to use a new style of Gift Aid form. These are available at the back of the Church and on the parish website. If you pay tax, please complete the new form and return it to the box provided. This allows us to provide the additional information required on the Gift Aid claim. Gift Aid is a vital source of income. All that is needed is that you pay tax. You simply declare that you give funds to the Church. We do the rest. Why not sign a form today? We get back an extra 25p for every £1 you give the Church in your weekly collection or by way of a donation. There is no need to cancel or renew it. We simply claim in the income we receive.

CROWNING FOR MAY NEXT SUNDAY
May, the month in which the earth springs into bloom and we start thinking about planting gardens, family picnics and just getting out and about. It's also the month of Mary. For centuries, the Catholic Church has set aside the entire month of Mary to honour Mary, Mother of God. The ways Mary is honoured in May is as varied as the people who honour her, such as daily recitation of the Rosary or erecting a special May altar with a statue or picture of Mary. Additionally, it's a long-standing tradition to crown the statue of Mary during May - known as May Crowning. We can and should be doing the same in our homes. If you haven't already, I encourage you to erect a prayer corner in your home be it fancy or simple. The main point is that it's a place designated for God, and more specifically, for spending time with him. For May, give Mary a special spot in your prayer corner. It can be a statue or picture, but place there some representation of our Blessed Mother. Then, crown Mary. You can give her an actual or spiritual crown and you can make it a subtle gesture or ornate ceremony of your own device. The meaning is far more important than the action. Do it because Mary is Mother - your mother, my mother, everyone's mother - and because she cares for all of us day in and day out without fail, interceding for us in even the tiniest matters. For that, she deserves an entire month in her honour.

FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTIONS AS REQUESTED BY OUR LADY OF FATIMA
Our Lady requested that people prayed and meditated on the mysteries of the rosary in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament with the intention of making reparations for sins committed. The Fatima group invite you to join them after 10.00am Mass on the first Saturday of the month, that is, 4 May, to keep Our Lady company as we meditate and pray for peace.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
Please remember our First Communion children in your prayers. First Holy Communion will be on Sunday 13 May at the 10.30am Mass. We pray that all our children have a day of grace and joy.

CHANGE YOUR THINKING
It will take just thirty-seven seconds to read this and change your thinking. Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service and where they had been on holiday. Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and colour of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every colour and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene. One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man could not hear the band, he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Days, weeks and months passed. One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed. It faced a blank wall. The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said "Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you".
Epilogue - There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations. Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled. If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy. Today is a gift, that is why it is called The Present.

JUST FOR A LAUGH…
A priest and a bus driver both died and went to Heaven at the same time. They get to the pearly gates where Pope Saint Peter greets them. He motions to the priest and they both hop in a jeep and go out the back door. There are about fifty acres of rolling hills with a little cottage on the knoll. Saint Peter turns to the priest and says "This will be yours for eternity. A perfect little cottage, right next to lovely pond, a lush little garden, and a library full of books." The priest says, "Thank you so much. This I shall enjoy!" Saint Peter drops off the priest, goes back to the pearly gates and motions to the bus driver. They hop in a Rolls Royce and go out the front door. There are about five hundred acres of land, with mountains and lakes and rivers. There is a huge two hundred room castle on one of the mountains and a wishing well that makes wishes come true. Saint Peter says "This will be yours for eternity. You can live in that castle with servants to wait on you hand and foot and you can have everything you want." The bus driver looks and Saint Peter and says "Well, now, don't think I'm not grateful, but why am I getting so much more than the priest?" Saint Peter just laughs and says "You brought more souls to Heaven! When the priest preached, everyone fell asleep. When you drove your bus, people prayed!"
