SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE
We are delighted to announce the Marriage of Louise McIvor and Ian Nicolson
on Friday 8 February 2019 at 12.30pm. We wish them both a love for a lifetime.
A TANDEM RIDE WITH GOD
I used to think of God as my observer, my judge, keeping track of the things
I did wrong so as to know whether I merited heaven or hell when I die. He
was out there, sort of like a distant ruler. I recognised His picture when
I saw it but I didn't really know Him. But later on, when I met Jesus, it
seemed as though life was rather like being on a bicycle but it was a tandem
bike and I noticed that Jesus was in the back helping me pedal. I didn't know
just when it was He suggested we change but life has not been the same since
I took the back-seat to Jesus, my Lord. He makes life exciting. When I had
control, I thought I knew the way. It was rather boring but predictable. It
was the shortest distance between two points. But when He took the lead, He
knew delightful long cuts, up mountains and through rocky places and at break-through
speeds. It was all I could do to hang on! Even though it often looked like
madness, He said, "Pedal!" I was worried and anxious and asked "Where
are you taking me?" He laughed and didn't answer and I started to learn
to trust. I forgot my boring life and entered into adventure. And when I'd
say "I'm scared", He'd lean back and touch my hand. He took me to
people with gifts that I needed, gifts of healing, acceptance and joy. They
gave me their gifts to take on my journey, our journey, my Lord's and mine.
And we were off again. He said "Give the gifts away. They're extra baggage,
too much weight." So I did, to the people we met, and I found in giving
I received and still our burden was light. I did not trust Him at first, in
control of my life. I thought He'd wreck it, but He knows all the 'bike secrets',
knows how to make it bend to take sharp corners, jump to clear high rocks,
fly to shorten scary passages. And I am learning to shut up and pedal in the
strangest places and I'm beginning to enjoy the view and the cool breeze on
my face with my delightful constant companion, Jesus Christ. And when I'm
sure I just can't do any more, He just smiles and says "Pedal."
JUST FOR A LAUGH…
Some Tommy Cooper Jokes
• I went to the butchers the other day and I bet him £50 that he couldn't
reach the meat off the top shelf. He said "No, the steaks are too high."
• My friend drowned in a bowl of muesli. A strong currant pulled him in.
• A man came round in hospital after a serious accident. He shouted 'Doctor,
doctor, I can't feel my legs!' The doctor replied, 'I know you can't, I've
cut your arms off'.
• Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly. They lit a fire in the craft
and it sank, proving once and for all that you can't have your kayak and heat
it.
INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF SAFEGUARDING PRACTICE WITHIN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN
SCOTLAND
Following the implementation of 'In God's Image', Safeguarding in the Catholic
Church in Scotland in May 2018, a process of independently scrutinising the
impact on the leadership culture and safeguarding practice at a Diocesan level
was also established. This year, our Diocese has been chosen and will be reviewed
by an external audit team from the Social Care Institute for Excellence and
Children in Scotland from 19 to 21 February. The audit will include the opportunity
for anyone who has disclosed abuse, shared concerns of unsafe people or practice
or asked for help to keep safe for any reason to speak to the audit team.
The audit team wants to hear how people in Diocesan roles have responded.
They are interested also to hear from survivors of non-recent Church-related
abuse, their families and friends, about the response they have received or
what may have prevented them from coming forward in the past. Should you wish
to meet members of the audit team and receive the formal consent documentation
you can contact the Diocesan Office, 8 Corsehill Road, Ayr KA7 2ST. The telephone
number is 01292 266750 and the email address of the Diocesan Safeguarding
Adviser is Safeguarding@GallowayDiocese.org.uk. You can now make contact directly
with the audit team, via the email address should this be preferable to a
request being made via the Diocese. Please make this information known in
the parishes. Direct Contact email address for the Audit Team is LearningTogether@scie.org.uk.
THINKING ABOUT THE PRIESTHOOD?
The Catholic Church in Scotland is now inviting enquiries from those considering
applying for seminary. For more information, please contact your Diocesan
Vocations Director, Father Martin Chambers on Martin.Chambers@GallowayDiocese.org.uk
or Priests for Scotland on Office@pfs.org.uk.
TALK BY DAVID WELLS
Please put this date in your diary and come along to the talk given by David
Wells in Church on Sunday 10 February at 3.00pm. David is coming from England
and is a very well-known and talented speaker in the Church. He will be speaking
about Evangelisation so let's make it a good turn-out and give him a good
welcome. A 'sign-up' sheet is at the back of Church. Please put your name
for catering purposes and a leaflet about David Wells will be handed out after
Mass. Thank you!
DIOCESAN WORLD DAY OF PRAYER OF THE SICK
The Diocesan World Day of Prayer for the Sick Mass will be held on Sunday
10 February at 4.00pm in Saint Margaret's Cathedral, Ayr. The Galloway Lourdes

BURNS SUPPERETTE
Instead of the traditional Burns Supper, this year we are having a Burns
Supperette in the Parish Centre on Saturday
9 February at 7.00pm. This is a mini Burns Supper with fewer speeches and
more music. As always, there will be a light-hearted approach and a bar. Father
Duncan will welcome and thank the guests. Ciaran
Sinclair will sing after piping in the haggis pie which will be addressed
by Bill Andrew. Kandy Bar haggis pies with tattie and neeps, followed by trifle,
will be served. A vegetarian option is available on request. Fiona McLachlan
will accompany the singing of Aidan McGrath, Laura McGee, Patrick McLaughlin
and Anya Tolland. The event will be chaired by George McGrattan who will deliver
a short Immortal Memory and sing with Michael McCulloch. There are more details
on www.SaintPeterInChains.net. Tickets cost £7.50 and can be reserved
by phoning the Parish Office on 464063. We would like to know the number to
be catered for as soon as possible. Thanks.

FINANCES
Bankers Orders for the Parish and Parish Centre amount to £3500 per
month. We are grateful for your generous support in collections. If you can
manage a little more from time to time, it would be a great help. A Standing
Order would make the handling of money so much easier. Have you signed a Gift
Aid form? If you are a taxpayer the Church would get 25p added to every £1
you donate.
COLLECTIONS
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £553.73 and the Maintenance
Fund collection to £251.41 - thanks.
SUNDAY TEAS
Tea and coffee will be served after the 10.30am Mass next Sunday in the Parish
Centre by Maria Boyle's team.
GIFT AID
The Inland Revenue now requires us to use a new style of Gift
Aid form. These are available at the back of the Church and on the parish
website. If you pay tax, please complete the new form and return it to the
box provided. This allows us to provide the additional information required
on the Gift Aid claim. Gift Aid is a vital source of income. All that is needed
is that you pay tax. You simply declare that you give funds to the Church.
We do the rest. Why not sign a form today? We get back an extra 25p for every
£1 you give the Church in your weekly collection or by way of a donation.
There is no need to cancel or renew it. We simply claim in the income we receive.
VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Holy Mass? Please know that you are very welcome.
During the 10.30 am Holy Mass outwith holidays, there is a Children’s Liturgy
provided for preschool children, children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental
Programme for children in Primary 4. After the 10.30 am Holy Mass, tea, coffee
cakes and buns are available in the Parish Centre. At both of our weekend
Holy Masses, we have a second collection for Church maintenance.
ADVERTISER SUPPORT
Our advertisers would welcome your support. We are grateful for their continuing
sponsorship. We are grateful for the support of Mr and Mrs Sohal, Nisa Stores,
Glasgow Street for the weekly donation of tea, coffee and milk for the Sunday
teas.
