First Saturday devotions will take place on the first Saturday of every month
after the 10.00am Holy Mass. The devotions take about half an hour. All are
welcome!
A SEVENTEENTH CENTURY NUN'S PRAYER
Lord,
Thou knowest better than I know myself, that I am growing older and will someday
be old. Keep me from the fatal habit of thinking I must say something on every
subject and on every occasion. Release me from craving to straighten out everybody's
affairs. Make me thoughtful but not moody and helpful but not bossy. With
my vast store of wisdom, it seems a pity not to use it all but Thou knowest
Lord that I want a few friends at the end. Keep my mind free from the recital
of endless details. Give me wings to get to the point. Seal my lips on my
aches and pains. They are increasing and love of rehearsing them is becoming
sweeter as the years go by. I dare not ask for grace enough to enjoy the tales
of others' pains but help me to endure them with patience. I dare not ask
for improved memory but for a growing humility and a lessing cocksureness
when my memory seems to clash with the memories of others. Teach me the glorious
lesson that occasionally I may be mistaken. Keep me reasonably sweet. I do
not want to be a Saint - some of them are so hard to live with - but a sour
old person is one of the crowning works of the devil. Give me the ability
to see good things in unexpected places and talents in unexpected people.
And give me, O Lord, the grace to tell them so. Amen.
JUST FOR A LAUGH…
Some more Tommy Cooper Jokes
• A man goes to the doctor with a strawberry growing out of his head. The
Doc says "I'll give you some cream to put on it."
• "Doctor, I can't stop singing The Green Green Grass of Home."
"That sounds like Tom Jones syndrome." "Is it common?"
"It's not unusual."
• A man takes his rotweiller to the vet. "My dog is cross-eyed. Is there
anything you can do for him?" "Well" said the vet "let's
have a look at him". So he picks the dog up and examines his eyes then
he checks his teeth. Finally, he says "I'm going to have to put him down."
"What? Because he's cross-eyed?" "No, because he's really heavy."

INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF SAFEGUARDING PRACTICE WITHIN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN
SCOTLAND
Following the implementation of 'In God's Image', Safeguarding in the Catholic
Church in Scotland in May 2018, a process of independently scrutinising the
impact on the leadership culture and safeguarding practice at a Diocesan level
was also established. This year, our Diocese has been chosen and will be reviewed
by an external audit team from the Social Care Institute for Excellence and
Children in Scotland from 19 to 21 February. The audit will include the opportunity
for anyone who has disclosed abuse, shared concerns of unsafe people or practice
or asked for help to keep safe for any reason to speak to the audit team.
The audit team wants to hear how people in Diocesan roles have responded.
They are interested also to hear from survivors of non-recent Church-related
abuse, their families and friends, about the response they have received or
what may have prevented them from coming forward in the past. Should you wish
to meet members of the audit team and receive the formal consent documentation
you can contact the Diocesan Office, 8 Corsehill Road, Ayr KA7 2ST. The telephone
number is 01292 266750 and the email address of the Diocesan Safeguarding
Adviser is Safeguarding@GallowayDiocese.org.uk. You can now make contact directly
with the audit team, via the email address should this be preferable to a
request being made via the Diocese. Please make this information known in
the parishes. Direct Contact email address for the Audit Team is LearningTogether@scie.org.uk.
THANKS
Enis McHugh and family would like to thank everyone for their support, the
many kind expressions of sympathy received, the large volume of Mass and Sympathy
cards which are a continuing source of great comfort as are the numerous compliments
and tributes paid to Isabel. Finally thank you to Father
Duncan and Sister Ursula for their participation
in an uplifting Requiem Mass.
TALK BY DAVID WELLS
Please put this date in your diary and come along to the talk given by David
Wells in Church today, Sunday 10 February, at 3.00pm. David is coming from
England and is a very well-known and talented speaker in the Church. He will
be speaking about Evangelisation so let's make it a good turn-out and give
him a good welcome. Thank you!
BLESSEDS LUIGI AND MARIA BELTRAME QUATTROCCHI
With Saint Valentine's Day coming soon, read this! Blessed Luigi and Maria
Beltrame Quattrocchi have the distinction to have been the first married couple
jointly beatified by the Church, sharing the same necessary miracle attributed
to their intercession. In many ways, their beatification was seen as a fruition
of the Second Vatican Council's desire for all the baptised to understand
their call to holiness. As Pope Saint John Paul II said in his homily at their
2001 beatification, "Today the aspiration of the Council is fulfilled
with the first beatification of a married couple. Their fidelity to the Gospel
and their heroic virtues were verified in their life as spouses and parents."
The Quattrocchis were visionary in their desire to spread the Gospel in the
social sphere. They are counted among the founders and organisers of three
apostolates including Italian associations for Catholic scouting and laity,
as well as a charitable organization founded to bring sick and infirm pilgrims
to Lourdes and other shrines. Luigi died in 1951 and Maria fourteen years
later in 1965. The legacy they left behind is summed up best in the words
of Pope Saint John Paul II - "The blessed couple lived an ordinary life
in an extraordinary way." Their feast day is 25 November.
DIOCESAN WORLD DAY OF PRAYER OF THE SICK
The Diocesan World Day of Prayer for the Sick Mass will be held on Sunday
10 February at 4.00pm in Saint Margaret's Cathedral, Ayr. The Galloway Lourdes
Hospitalité looks forward to welcoming you. If you wish to be anointed,
please make yourself known to a member of the Hospitalité team on the
day. Mass will be followed by refreshments in the hall and the Hospitalité
annual general meeting.

Offices on Monday evenings from 7.00 to 9.00pm, running alternate Monday thereafter.
They teach the Billings Ovulation Method of Natural Fertility Regulation which
helps couples achieve or postpone pregnancy in a natural way and they can
help couples optimise their chances of conceiving. The service is free and
confidential and no appointment is necessary. The telephone number is 0141
221 0858. More information can be found at www.FertilityCare.org.uk

WELCOME MEETINGS
Our final Welcome Meeting for those thinking about becoming Catholics will
be on Wednesday 13 February at 7.00pm.
LENT IS COMING SOON!
Do you use the Lenten season to bring yourself closer to Jesus? The season
of Lent is an urgent call to conversion. With Lent beginning on 6 March, we
can reflect on the words of Pope Francis,
who reminds us that "Christians are asked to return to God 'with all
their hearts' (Joel 2:12), to refuse to settle for mediocrity and to grow
in friendship with the Lord." We have plenty of opportunities at Saint
Peter's to help you "grow in friendship with the Lord" throughout
the Lenten season, from Stations of the Cross to guides to Confession, Adoration,
Rosary and reflections for the season. By making a Lenten Resolution, we have
the chance to deepen your relationship with Christ and experience a conversion
of heart this Lent. Our Lord waits for you to approach him during this penitential
season. Will you accept his invitation?
HOSPITAL CHAPLAINCY
If a member of your family or a friend is sick, please let us know and give
us the details. Deacon Bill Corbett (01292 521208, 07904 248948, Rev.BillCorbett@btinternet.com)
is the chaplain to Crosshouse Hospital and is assisted by the priest on call
each week.
FINANCES
Bankers Orders for the Parish and Parish Centre amount to £3500 per
month. We are grateful for your generous support in collections. If you can
manage a little more from time to time, it would be a great help. A Standing
Order would make the handling of money so much easier. Have you signed a Gift
Aid form? If you are a taxpayer the Church would get 25p added to every £1
you donate.
COLLECTIONS
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £616.38 and the Maintenance
Fund collection to £249.51 - thanks.
SUNDAY TEAS
Tea and coffee will be served after the 10.30am Mass next Sunday in the Parish
Centre by Sharon McLaughlin's team.
GIFT AID
The Inland Revenue now requires us to use a new style of Gift
Aid form. These are available at the back of the Church and on the parish
website. If you pay tax, please complete the new form and return it to the
box provided. This allows us to provide the additional information required
on the Gift Aid claim. Gift Aid is a vital source of income. All that is needed
is that you pay tax. You simply declare that you give funds to the Church.
We do the rest. Why not sign a form today? We get back an extra 25p for every
£1 you give the Church in your weekly collection or by way of a donation.
There is no need to cancel or renew it. We simply claim in the income we receive.
VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Holy Mass? Please know that you are very welcome.
During the 10.30 am Holy Mass outwith holidays, there is a Children’s Liturgy
provided for preschool children, children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental
Programme for children in Primary 4. After the 10.30 am Holy Mass, tea, coffee
cakes and buns are available in the Parish Centre. At both of our weekend
Holy Masses, we have a second collection for Church maintenance.
ADVERTISER SUPPORT
Our advertisers would welcome your support. We are grateful for their continuing
sponsorship. We are grateful for the support of Mr and Mrs Sohal, Nisa Stores,
Glasgow Street for the weekly donation of tea, coffee and milk for the Sunday
teas.
