Because of the coronavirus pandemic, public Church services and gatherings
are limited till further notice. Father
Duncan
will live-stream Holy Mass every day and assures you of his prayers for you
and your family.
A READING FROM THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MARK (Mark 9:2-10)
Jesus took with him Peter and James and John and led them up a high mountain
where they could be alone by themselves. There in their presence, he was transfigured.
His clothes became dazzlingly white, whiter than any earthly bleacher could
make them. Elijah appeared to them with Moses and they were talking with Jesus.
Then Peter spoke to Jesus "Rabbi" he said "it is wonderful
for us to be here so let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses and
one for Elijah." He did not know what to say. They were so frightened
and a cloud came, covering them in shadow and there came a voice from the
cloud "This is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to him." Then suddenly,
when they looked round, they saw no one with them any more but only Jesus.
As they came down from the mountain he warned them to tell no one what they
had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead. They observed
the warning faithfully, though among themselves they discussed what 'rising
from the dead' could mean.

FOR SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this Holy Sacrament of the altar.
I love you above all things and I passionately desire to receive you into
my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually
into my soul so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.
BRUISED APPLES
A few years ago, a group of salesmen went to a regional sales convention
in Chicago. They had assured their wives that they would be home in plenty
of time for Friday night's dinner. Well, as such things go, one thing
led to another. The sales meeting lasted longer than anticipated. Their
flights were scheduled to leave out of Chicago's O'Hare Airport and they
had to race to the airport. With tickets in hand, they barged through
the terminal to catch their flight back home. In their rush, with tickets
and briefcases, one of these salesmen inadvertently kicked over a table
which held a display of baskets of apples. Apples flew everywhere. Without
stopping or looking back, they all managed to reach the plane in time
for their nearly missed boarding, all but one. He paused, took a deep
breath and experienced a twinge of compassion for the girl whose apple
stand had been overturned. He told his friends to go on without him and
told one of them to call his wife when they arrived at their home destination
and explain his taking a later flight. Then he returned to the terminal
where the apples were all over the floor. He was glad he did. The sixteen-year-old
girl at the apple stand was totally blind! She was softly crying, tears
running down her cheeks in frustration and at the same time helplessly
groping for her spilled produce as the crowd swirled about her, no one
stopping or to care for her plight. The salesman knelt on the floor with
her, gathered up the apples, put them into the baskets and helped set
the display up once more. As he did this, he noticed that many of them
had become battered and bruised. These he set aside in another basket.
When he had finished, he pulled out his wallet and said to the girl "Here,
please take this $20 for the damage we did. Are you okay?" She nodded
through her tears. He continued on with "I hope we didn't spoil your
day too badly." As the salesman started to walk away, the bewildered
blind girl called out to him, "Mister". He paused and turned
to look back into those blind eyes. She continued "Are you Jesus?"
He stopped in mid-stride, and he wondered. Then slowly he made his way
to catch the later flight with that question burning and bouncing about
in his soul - 'Are you Jesus?'. Do people mistake you for Jesus? That's
our destiny, is it not? To be so much like Jesus that people cannot tell
the difference as we live and interact with a world that is blind to his
love, life and grace. If we claim to know him, we should live, walk and
act as he would. Knowing him is more than simply praying and going to
Church. It's actually living his life day by day. You are the apple of
His eye even though we, too, have been bruised by the fall. He stopped
what he was doing and picked you and me up on a hill called Calvary and
paid for us in full.

SCOTTISH
CATHOLIC INTERNATIONAL AID FUND (SCIAF) COLLECTION FOR LENT
Normally,
we would be having out the SCIAF boxes for Lent as a practice of our almsgiving.
Because of the closed Churches and restrictions, it is practically impossible
to get the boxes to everyone. This is what we thought we might do this
Lent - the boxes will be available on Wednesday 3 March, from 9.00 until
10.00am at Saint Bride's, in front of the Church door and at Saint Peter's,
in the porch of the presbytery. Please make an effort to come along, or
ask someone else, and collect some boxes for yourselves and other parishioners.
The boxes should be returned by the end of Lent. Thank you for your support!
CATHOLIC PARLIAMENTARY OFFICE - SCOTTISH CHILD PAYMENT HAS NOW STARTED
The new benefit will give qualifying parents and carers £40 every
four weeks for each child under six. The benefit has now started, meaning
that Social Security Scotland is now able to do final eligibility checks
and start issuing decisions. The first decisions and payments will arrive
from late February. Thousands of applications are being processed each
week to get money to families as soon as possible. People who applied
in advance of Monday 15 February are expected to get a decision and, if
eligible, their first payment by no later than the end of April. Payments
for those who applied today or earlier will be calculated from today.
Parents and carers who have not yet applied and have a child under six
are encouraged to apply today to get the maximum amount of money they
are entitled to. People who apply after today will have their payment
calculated from the day that they apply. People, who supplied their mobile
number, will be kept up to date on the progress of their application by
text. Social Security Scotland delivers a number of benefits for families.
This includes Best Start Grant Pregnancy and Baby Payment, Early Learning
Payment, School Age Payment and Best Start Foods. Applications can be
made for Scottish Child Payment and all of these using a single straightforward
form. People can apply by visiting Benefits and Grants at www.MyGov.scot
or calling 0800 182 2222. Scottish Child Payment is a new benefit and
it is in addition to the United Kingdom wide Child Benefit.
SAINT PETER'S 50/50 CLUB
2020 has proved a very difficult year in the life of our parish and 2021
is still tough on everyone. Since we cannot meet with each other, not
even at Church, we cannot have our usual 'Sign-Up' meeting in the Parish
Centre. We are grateful to those who responded in renewing their membership
by post or letterbox drop to the Promoter, Mrs M Sammons at 30 Seafield
Court, Ardrossan, KA22 8NS. We ask members to do the same at your earliest
convenience by sending your cheque for £15 in the post made payable
to Saint Peter's 50/50 Club and including your name and address or alternatively
cash by letterbox drop to the Promoter at the above address. Please do

OBLIGATION
Sunday obligation to attend Holy Mass remains suspended for the time being
and availability is restricted for those wishing to attend. Some of our
parishioners are working during the week and can only attend at the weekend.
Therefore, to make Holy Mass available to everyone we would be grateful
if you wish to attend Mass and are able to attend on a weekday please
do so, leaving seats for those parishioners working during the week. Thank
you.
STANDING ORDERS - PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT
The parishes have taken quite a 'knock' through lockdown when public Mass
is not available. This has had a huge impact on our parishes' finances.
Could you consider taking out a Standing Order? It would be of great benefit
to our parish. Forms are available from the Parish Office and here.
