Andrew McCarroll
early 1930s
Andrew McCarroll (1885-1967), a brother of Father
James McCarroll, was one of
a delegation from Ardrossan and Saltcoats who went to Glasgow to speak
to Archbishop Donald Mackintosh in about 1931. They were frustrated
at not having a Church in Ardrossan on land bought for that purpose.
The meeting was successful because in 1933, by Father Joseph Doherty
(1879-1964), Parish
Priest of the Church
of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, Saltcoats was instructed
by the Archbishop to arrange the building of a Church in Ardrossan.
